Delhi restaurant booked after man finds dead lizard in the bowl of Sambar!

After a man finds lizard in sambhar, Zomato moderates negative comments on Saravana Bhavan's reviews section.

On Sunday evening, Pankaj Aggarwal was out with his friends for a meal at Connaught Place's Saravana Bhavan. But his outing turned out to be a nightmare when he found a lizard in his meal, proof of which he then posted online. The Delhi Police has since registered an FIR against Saravana Bhavan in Connaught Place.

As news spread and customers started posting furious comments on Saravana Bhavan's page on Zomato, the food aggregator moderated it claiming that it has nothing to do with food quality.

The complainant told the police officials that he had already eaten some of the food and half of the lizard was missing. Following the incident, Pankaj Agarwal also posted a review about the 'lizard sambhar' on the restaurant's page on Zomato. “Tried their special lizard sambhar, had too many veggies in it. If you’re gonna sell lizard sambhar, at least put 2-3 lizards in it, also they were quite thin and stretchy and weren’t properly cooked. As you can see in the picture, I could only eat half of it,” he said sarcastically.

All reviews submitted will be monitored, there's a chance that they may be removed as part of this process: Zomato

After stepping in to moderate the negative comments on the restaurant's Zomato page, the food aggregator has now also put up a warning in the reviews section of the restaurant. The warning states, "This establishment has seen some social media/news coverage recently, leading to opinions being shared on Zomato which aren't about its food, service, or ambiance. As a neutral platform, we can't have reviews that are based on opinions biased by the media reports, whether positive or negative. Millions of foodies depend on Zomato for credible reviews, so we need to ensure that content on this page is trustworthy and based on personal experiences. In keeping up with the Foodie Code of Conduct, all reviews submitted will be monitored, and are subject to moderation. There's a chance that reviews may be removed as part of this process." Saravana Bhavan did not respond to our queries.

Complainant has not shared the lizard video with police yet: DCP New Delhi
Pankaj then posted the video of the food on his Facebook account. Eish Singhal, DCP, New Delhi, told us, "The complainant has posted the video of lizard online, but he has not shared the video with us yet. After we receive the video, we will analyze it. After receiving the complaint, we have registered an FIR against the restaurant under Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others). We have asked the restaurant to provide its license and the CCTV footage."
