ith no COVID positive guest checking in to the COVID-care hotels attached to COVID hospitals in the national capital for more than two weeks of designating them, hoteliers have started approaching the NCT government individually and collectively asking to delink them from the duty and allow them to start normal operation as hotels.
As the government has considered individual pleas of three hotels in the city and delinked them from the COVID service in the last couple of days, more hoteliers have started approaching the designated district authorities with the plea to delink them from the duties.
“We were the first hotel in the city to be attached in early June. But so far, we haven’t had a single guest checking into the hotel. We have therefore approached the DM asking to delink us,” said Garish Bindra, Vice President - Operations, The Suryaa Hotel, New Delhi.
The GM of another neighbouring 5-Star hotel also said the same thing. “We haven’t received any patients so far. We have unnecessarily called about 100 of our employees, and we have to pay their salaries. Moreover, we had a few long-stay guests who vacated and went away,” he said. He asked the government to allow the hotels to reopen and start normal operations.
The Hotel Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) has approached the Delhi Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister with the same plea today. “All the hotels which have been attached to the hospitals are suffering and making huge losses and have absolutely no business. Therefore, we request your intervention to release hotels in Delhi and allow them to reopen and start normal operations, which will provide a level playing field for the Delhi hotels in line with the NCR and the neighbouring states.”
As per reports, the SDM Dwarka had delinked three hotels in West Delhi, The Piccadily Janakpuri, Taj Vivanta Dwarka, and Pride Plaza Aerocity from COVID duties last weekend.
