Less than 48 hours after representatives from the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) met BMC commissioner I S Chahal, the civic body has granted city eateries and bars permission to remain open till 11.30 pm, effective Thursday night.
From October 5, restaurants and bars were allowed to operate and till 10 pm. At their recent meeting with the civic chief, HRAWI delegates sought permission to extend the timing till 11.30 pm.

Sherry Bhatia, president, HRAWI, said: “Most Mumbaikars work till late in the evening. Also, restaurants are trying to recover after almost seven months of complete shutdown for dining. This extension will definitely encourage Mumbaikars to dine out and give restaurants a chance to recover and serve customers better.”
HRAWI had also aired the industry’s concerns about property tax waiver, remuneration for hotels requisitioned by the BMC for quarantine purpose, and utilization of rooftop space. “The commissioner has assured us that he will look into all the issues,” said Gurbaxish Singh Kohli of HRAWI.
