Small Restaurants Will Face Most Of The Heat: Delhi!

Comments · 1278 Views

Delhi restaurants may suffer a 40 percent dip in business with the new weekend curfew. While larger brands may have contingency plans in place, it’s the smaller restaurants that will end up facing most of the heat.

With the rising case of Omicron, the Delhi government has imposed a weekend curfew from January 8, 2022. Restaurants in the city, especially the small and individual players, are now staring at a dip in business, and restaurateurs are completely displeased with the new order.

According to the Economic times report, This lockdown will severely affect the restaurant industry with many small brands already on the verge of closure. Building a delivery business with the help of Zomato and Swiggy is not viable and getting customers directly on the restaurant platform is not easy. At World Trail, we have invested in building our own app during the first lockdown which has paid us good dividends. Dine-in businesses will go down and there will be a surge in delivery orders. Overall margins will go down by 30 percent to 35 percent,” Vipinkumar Singh, owner of World Trail, said.

Restaurants located in malls are going to have to face the pinch as well. “We have to abide by the restrictions imposed for both restaurants and malls. Our sales have already gone down by 30 percent. We don’t know how we will purchase the bar license in March,” Anjali Aggarwal, owner, and director, The Terrace: Restro Lounge and Bar commented.

Owners are once again looking for government support because restaurant businesses that are capital-heavy are hit harder by lockdowns and curfews. “We’ve seen so many restaurants shut down in the last two years because they couldn’t afford the rent and there was no relief from the government,” Vaibhav, owner of Chido Restaurant, stated.

Deliveries however may get a boost as a result of curfews and lockdowns.
