Corona Did Not Stop Me As A Hotelier!

Comments · 4115 Views

Meet the Hotelier, Rajkendra Singh, Owner & Host, The Hotel Dayara Utsav, Uttarkashi Uttarakhand. From a Porter to the Hotel owner, his journey has been amazing.

Because of the family condition, Rajkendra has chosen to work instead of study. He has started his journey as a porter at Thappar Farm House, Uttarkashi. From there he got inspired and started working towards his dream which was to open his Hotel in his native village.

We have asked a few questions which we would like to share with you all to show how he has been through all this.

HW:  What motivated you to make a career in this industry?

Since I have worked in the hospitality industry for a long time so I used to dream of my own Hotel. I had my ancestral land in the Village Natin which is in Uttarkashi and has a very beautiful serene around. Then one of my friends helped me in taking the loan and with the other formalities which were required for a new Hotel. That is how it got started.

HW: How did you cope up with the first lockdown as a hotelier?

Corona did not stop me as Hotelier and I can say this thing because I didn’t sit at home and wait for everything to get okay. Instead, I have started working on the pending things. I have been lucky that the property was not on lease so I didn’t have to pay. I had my savings by which we have survived.

HW: How did you overcome those days?

Like I have mentioned that I have had my savings and also I took a loan from one of the government schemes for my second property. So, I have invested most of the time in building that. This property is also bookable now.

HW: Anything else you want to share?

I would like to tell Uttarakhand’s youth that there are a lot of things you can do while staying in your hometown or at least within the states. And, I would like to invite travelers and families to come and visit our village where you will be served organic home-cooked food. Travelers could also enjoy the view of a few great Indian peaks like Srikanth and Bandarpunch from here. Do come and visit us :)

About Natin Village:

This off-beat place is a breathtaking destination in the hills of Uttarakhand. Natin Village is a lesser-known but so vibrant and alive destination. It is just 2 km from the base camp of Dayara Bugyal Trek. Most of the trekkers go through this village to reach another basecamp, Gui.

The pandemic may have thrown a wrench into the hospitality industry, but it did not stop me as a hotelier. Despite the challenges, I have adapted and found new ways to serve my guests and keep my business afloat.

I have implemented strict health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both my staff and guests. This includes regular cleaning and disinfection of all areas, as well as providing personal protective equipment for everyone on the premises.

I have also embraced technology to offer contactless check-in and check-out options, as well as virtual concierge services to minimize physical contact.

Additionally, I have pivoted my business to cater to the changing needs of travelers. Whether it's offering long-term stays for remote workers or providing flexible cancellation policies, I have been proactive in meeting the demands of the current situation.

Despite the challenges, I remain optimistic about the future of the hospitality industry. I am confident that with resilience, innovation, and a commitment to safety, we will overcome this crisis and emerge stronger than ever. Corona may have presented obstacles, but it has not stopped me from continuing to provide exceptional hospitality to my guests.
