Taj Mahal opens for the public on September 21!

Taj Mahal in Agra is opening! After remaining close for more than six months due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the historic Taj Mahal is set to open its doors for visitors from September 21.

Once the monuments reopen, visitors will have to abide by the following rules as laid down by the Agra administration to keep everyone safe from the Coronavirus.

The central government’s guidelines over social distancing and hand sanitization will be followed after the Taj Mahal opens for the public on September 21. Wearing masks will be mandatory for visitors. Ticket counters won’t open. Visitors must purchase tickets online. Tickets will be sold online or through the ASI phone app, Swarnkar said.

Taj Mahal will allow around 5000 visitors per day – 2500 before lunch, and 2500 after lunch. However, the Agra Fort will permit entry to 1300 persons in the morning and 1200 in the evening.

All licensed commercial photographers allowed within the Taj Mahal premises won’t be allowed in at the same time after the reopening. They will be allocated a time slot for entry.

Tickets will be sold online or through the ASI phone app for the first slot initially. Then, the remaining tickets will be sold for the second slot. Physical tickets won’t be given.

The monuments will remain shut to the public on fixed days of the week. While the Taj Mahal will remain closed on Friday and Sunday, Agra Fort will remain shut on Sunday.

Public visitors will be thermally screened at the entry gate. They will have to sanitize their hands and maintain adequate physical distance.

The monuments will be sanitized on a timely basis to avoid the spread of COVID-19 as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Culture.
